What Makes An Entrepreneur Successful

by BNI India

What makes Mark Zuckerberg one of the world’s youngest billionaires, what makes the Founder of Uber a revolutionary when it comes to urban commute, or what got the founders of Airbnb to transform the experience of travel? Ever wondered what made them billionaires and their ideas such big parts of our lifestyle?

Well, today we tell you what gets entrepreneurs ticking & kicking!

Of course, there is the passion to create something new, something which will change the world forever, something which will not only transform lives for the better but also snowball into new opportunities, new experiences & new ideas.

This drive to make and build something new and worthwhile, is so strong that they are ready to go all the way, to do whatever it takes and work with such trust & motivation that makes the journey and the destination as fruitful as it can get.

Of course drive without direction makes an aimless wanderer. Passion needs to have the right outlet to take shape and become what you strive to create. That is where their knowledge comes into play. Knowledge doesn’t necessarily mean academic qualification, in fact, some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs are school dropouts! So how do they accumulate product and market knowledge?

Entrepreneurial minds run on ideas and to make that idea a reality, they immerse themselves in learning about the industry inside out.

Of course, a childhood interest in something makes them prodigies and they evolve into entrepreneurs like Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg who were software geniuses at a very young age-it is that interest or rather obsession that creates world-changing technologies.

Learning is a constant for an entrepreneur, who never gets complacent with knowledge. They continue to create opportunities for experiences that will get them to be more aware of their product, their competitors & their industry. Staying up-to-date is never a choice with an entrepreneur and that helps sustain their business & reputation.

Entrepreneurs trust themselves very highly. So much conviction is attached to their idea or creation, that are willing to take risks of any, kind big or small. They know the possibilities their creation can open, and so they have no qualms about taking risks. They know sometimes they need to make compromises for the greater good and they do that effortlessly.

This risk-taking characteristic makes them adaptable, flexible and open to change. An entrepreneur is like a wild animal, alert, sharp and swift. Their knowledge, their experiences reinforce the trust in themselves and their capacity to embrace the unknown.

Being flexible doesn’t make them bad planners. Entrepreneurs may not over-plan or over think but they definitely follow a structure or a plan. They work with a group of people and in order to facilitate their working and processes better, planning is required.  Also, startups are always in a financial crunch and they are required to manage limited resources without compromising on the results they seek to achieve-which needs planning.

With dedication comes, discipline. An entrepreneur faces a lot of hardships, be it financially, logistically, politically etc but what keeps him going is the stamina & energy his mind & body.  Sustaining good health requires discipline. Right from getting up in the morning to eating right, entrepreneurs need to stay fit in order to accommodate work pressure & challenges.

Entrepreneurs understand people very well. Their networking ability and the connections they make & maintain ensure that their business thrives in a competitive & dynamic industry.

They understand business relationships not just as stepping stones to profitability but also as bonds of trust, inspiration & humanity. That is what makes them not only successful entrepreneurs but also human beings that become the change they want to see.
