9 Must-Have Items for the Perfect Remote Office

by BNI India

The option we now have to work remotely from any part of the world is one of the greatest advantages of the time we live in. Thousands of people are even able to run their own business from a small home office, anywhere in the world; but there are some must-haves for a remote office, if you really want to make it work.

A Portable Projector

Especially if you are using a compact laptop for travelling, staring at a laptop screen all day will strain not only your eyes, but your muscles as well, causing neck pains & even headaches. The solution to this is to carry a small, portable projector. Portable projectors can fit in the palm of your hand, connect to your laptop by USB cable, and can be projected onto any large space. They are useful for watching videos on a larger screen, for making presentations, or even if you just want to type out your work without straining your eyes.

A Wi-Fi Range Extender

A strong internet connection is one of the most vital things to have while working remotely. Without it, it’s almost impossible to do the online work that keeps you earning while on the go. A Wi-Fi range extender increases the range of an existing connection & improves the signal strength, so that even if you’re somewhere with a weak Wi-Fi signal, you can still make it work.

A Surge Protector

It’s always smart to use a surge protector, to make sure your smartphone or laptop is safe while charging, in case of a fluctuation in electricity. Some countries, especially 3rd world countries, have frequent power fluctuations, so a surge protector is a convenient & inexpensive way to keep your electronic items safe.

A Bluetooth Speaker

Bluetooth speakers come with all sorts of advantages. You’re able to play music on the go, wherever you are (some are even waterproof), and they are also extremely useful for giving audio or video presentations when you don’t want to rely on your small laptop speakers.

Noise-cancelling Headphones

One of the downsides to working remotely can be the difficulty of concentrating while in busy or noisy surroundings. Noise-cancelling headphones are the solution to this problem, as they completely cut off all noise from the activity around you, enabling you to concentrate on the task at hand. Some models come with microphones, which are ideal for conducting client calls, even if you’re out and about.

A Portable Charger

By far one of the items you will need the most: a portable charger is almost invaluable. There is no guarantee that you will always have power supply available nearby when you’re working remotely, so having a portable power bank ensures that you’ll have a supply of power on the go.  Small power banks may only hold one charge at a time, but larger power banks can hold up to 4-5 charges, or charge several devices simultaneously.

A Universal Power Adaptor

If you travel a lot, you’ll find that different countries require different adaptors for plugging your devices in. Rather than acquiring different adaptors for different countries, get yourself a universal adaptor. Some of these adaptors even come with built-in surge protectors, with both USB & plug outlets for greater convenience.

An External Hard Drive

While working remotely, you will need to keep regular backups of your work. Cloud storage is an option, but the space you have is limited, and your work might not get backed up regularly or properly if you have a weak Wi-Fi signal. Using an external hard drive will ensure backups are made easily & quickly.

A Backpack

The usefulness of a backpack cannot be overrated. A good backpack in the right size, with protective padding, a separate laptop compartment & integrated anti-theft components will keep all your gadgets safe and in one place while you’re travelling. With a good backpack, you can keep your valuables together and close to you at all times.
