‘’Depending on what they are, our habits will either make us or break us. We become what we repeatedly do.” This quote by Sean Covey aptly describes how our habits govern the direction our life takes. It shows us how we hold the power to change our lives by our very own thoughts and actions. So go ahead and take the first step in the right direction by inculcating these positive habits.
- Sleep Schedule – Do you wake up every morning feeling fresh and rejuvenated, or feeling tired and lethargic? The answer to this question will determine how the rest of your day pans out. Your good intention to imbibe positive habits and follow them religiously every day will be possible only if you have the necessary physical and mental strength to do so. So it is really essential that you get your quota of sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and energetic. A few tips on how to go about getting your sleep schedule on the right track:
- Set a fixed time to go to bed and wake up. Stick to it every day, even on weekends.
- Ensure you tune out all social media and television activities an hour before going to bed.
- Instead relax with a book or soft music.
- Positivity – Hold on to that positive energy you wake up with, for the rest of the day. While you will encounter challenges and disappointments during the course of the day, don’t let it get you down. The day also brings with it numerous happy moments and achievements. The trick is to take everything in your stride. Realise that things will not always turn out how you want it to, but putting in your 100% is what matters. Also don’t give up after your first try, keep bouncing back with renewed vigour and see the positive impact it has on your level of confidence and self esteem.
- Exercise Daily – The importance of making exercise part of your everyday routine cannot be stressed enough. In addition to physical health, exercise also promotes mental wellbeing. The numerous feel good chemicals released by the mind (endorphins, serotonin etc) help you deal with the stress and high pressure situations you face on a daily basis. So go ahead and make exercising daily a lifestyle choice rather than a compulsion.
- Eat Right – The hectic pace of today’s lifestyle means people have no time to cook and inevitably end up reaching out for those unhealthy fast food choices. The long term consequences of this are obesity, chronic ailments and depression. In order to avoid this scenario it is imperative you make the choice to start eating a balanced nutritious diet every day. Plan out your menu ensuring you get the required daily quota of vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates. This does not mean you can’t indulge in your favourite foods, of course you can but only as a treat.
- Cut Yourself Some Slack – Set aside some time for yourself to do the things you love. Spend an hour everyday enjoying your favourite hobby (painting, music or reading). This not only gives you a sense of joy but also acts as a great stress reliever.
As you can see these 5 positive habits are closely interrelated and work in tandem to strengthen your mind and body. So go ahead and take the first step down the path to success!
