Business Traveller? Stay Fit On The Go With These Tips

by BNI India

Work travel leaving you with little time for gymming? Fret not. The next time you’re getting ready for a business trip, make sure you pack this simple list of fitness tips. Psst… each of these things can be easily blended into your work day so that you can stay fit even on the busiest days. Sounds good? Read on.

  • If you can walk it, walk it! Whether you’re climbing up or down a building or heading to the nearby cafe, try and depend most on your feet for commute. Walking is an often overlooked yet effective way of staying fit. Not only does it benefit your cardio system, it also activates your muscles; muscles that will probably be strained due to long meetings ahead.
Tip: Try to track how many steps you take everyday. It works as a good incentive to keep at it.
  • Use your body weight Don’t want to miss out on your strength and conditioning exercises while you’re away on your official trip? Improvise! You don’t need weights to tone those muscles; use your bodyweight. For instance, you could always squeeze in 10-20 pushups in the morning before you step into the shower. You could also do some stretches by using balcony railings for support. Yoga and meditation can be easily incorporated too.
Tip: Sit on the ground with your back facing the bed. Now, place your hands on the bed for support. Keep your legs straight and use your arms to lift your torso up and down. This does wonders for your triceps.
  • Eat smart Believe it or not, a huge part of fitness is consumption. Many busy bees rely heavily on fast food because their breaks are time-sensitive. The problem is, most fast food is pure junk that may taste good and fill you easily, but it is in no way a substitute to a meal’s nutrition. Sure, you may not have time to eat like you do at home when you’re travelling for work, so the best thing is to stick to simple food that won’t cost you a lot of time. For instance, sandwich and fresh juice is a way better option than a processed burger with a soda.
Tip: Try to experiment less with food when you’re on a business trip, however tempting it may seem – you don’t want to deal with a bad tummy.
  • Drink Up (water, that is) Nothing shapes the body quite like water does. It’s easy to forget to drink water when you’re flying from one meeting to another. However, you can always work around it. Concentrate on the free time you get. For instance, use mornings and nights for extensive hydration. Gulp down as much water as you can as soon as you’re up, then drink as much water as you can during the day. Come back to your hotel room at night and gulp a good amount again. This way, you’ll stay hydrated and fresh – trust us, you’ll be thankful to us, especially if there’s an impending cocktail dinner on the cards.
Tip: Try and carry a copper water bottle with you so that you can pretty much keep sipping wherever you are.
  • Quality sleep is key Exercise and sleep go hand in hand. There’s no use working out if you aren’t going to power down. Not only does sleep affect your mental agility, it also determines your physical energy. What’s more? You can steer clear of dozing off at meetings since you won’t be sleep deprived.
As you can see above, it’s the absolute basics that keep you fit. If you can work your way around timings, nobody can stop you from being the best version of yourself, physically and mentally, wherever you go!
Tip: Your devices need naps too, so keep them away if you want quality sleep. Your phone’s screen light could disrupt your sleep.
