5 Mistakes You Can Avoid While Branding

by BNI India

The internet is always bursting with branding tips & strategies, about what you should, here we’ll see what you shouldn’t do while branding.

Creating More Than One Branding Message:

Creating and living up to one branding message is hard enough and brands make the mistake of creating more than 1. For eg, Sedan can’t be luxurious & economical or a helmet brand can’t place themselves as safe & sexy.

One single message which hits people hard and also creates a strong memory about the brand.

Using Acronyms In Your Message: Something like ‘Best Amp Plugin’ might leave some people blinking. Use full terms especially in your branding message. Positioning your brand requires good communication. So a branding message which isn’t understood in the first read, won’t work.

Using Cliche Adjectives: Scalable, reliable, easy-to-use and many such adjectives are being used by everyone and so it doesn’t make you any different or distinct. Why not try using words which don’t sound boastful. Like honesty which could be brutal but it could sell. LIke if yours is a shoe brand something like “It’s sole will wither with time, but you’ll love it till it does!” Pia Silva is a brand strategist who runs BADASS BRANDS and she tells you why she recommends a dark twist to your fluffy branding.

Not Communicating Your Branding Message To Your Fellow Colleagues: This happens in big organisations. The marketing team fails to communicate to the rest of the department, assuming that once the ad is out people will get it; your own colleagues may not. So make sure the message runs up and down the organisation before it goes out to the public.

Failure To Examine Its Response: Previously advertising was just one way but today with social media, that has changed. It’s important to understand how your message has been interpreted and then rebrand or modify your message, accordingly. Also, remember social media gives you great scope to get creative. People don’t want to hear about what you have to say about yourself, so build our brand about what people are saying about you.
